purpose of the personal resources repositoryAs a Cobb County, Georgia teacher working with a diverse group of students, I realize that there is a need for educational resources that focus on student learning needs, data driven instruction, teacher-student relationships, and technological integration. This page is intended to provide educators and students will strategies and information that will foster differentiated instruction and high academic achievement.
section 1: georgia gifted rule
Perhaps the best place to start exploring gifted education in Cobb County is to begin learning about Georgia gifted laws and, more specifically, their implementation in the Cobb County School District. Download the files below for comprehensive information on gifted education in Georgia and Cobb County.
section 2: Spotlight on gifted education pioneersAfter studying both the Georgia Gifted Resource Manual and the Cobb Gifted Services Manual, educators may pose questions regarding the origins of these rules and procedures. To answer my own questions about the origins of gifted education and services, I studied a variety of gifted theorists and pioneers. Below, I have highlighted five of the theorists and educators who have made major contributions to the field of gifted education. Explore the articles and websites below to gain a better understanding of why's and how's of gifted education:

section 3: understand your students' learning styles & strengthsHoward gardner's theory of multiple intelligencesHoward Gardner is best known for his Theory of Multiple Intelligences. Educators may use this theory to gather data on student strengths, as well as promote meta-cognition in their students' learning process. The link below provides an introduction to Multiple Intelligences and a self-assessment:

betts' profiles of the gifted and talentedGeorge Betts' article "Profiles of the Gifted and Talented" presents six different types of students that we may encounter in gifted and regular education. From the easily recognizable "Successful" to the complex "Double-Labeled," Betts provides information on how to identify these profiles of our students, and his helpful matrix gives educators and school officials tips on how best to support individual students.

Learning Styles InventoryStudent learning styles may vary dramatically from one class to the next. By giving a learning style inventory, teachers can discover a wealth of information about how their students learn best, including which students learn sequentially, which students need more think time, and which students have visual or verbal learning styles. Schedule a time for your students to go to the computer lab to administer this simple, yet valuable learning styles inventory: http://www.engr.ncsu.edu/learningstyles/ilsweb.html

Section 4: understanding creativity
Creativity in theoryOftentimes in the education world, creativity is not valued to the degree that academic achievement, mental ability, and overall school performance are, yet creativity is an important and valuable area of giftedness. Even students who have learning disabilities can have outstanding gifts in this area. Fortunately, educators have a variety of instructional tools at their disposal that will encourage creativity in the classroom. Peruse the resources below to gain more knowledge of how creativity is defined and how we can not only encourage creativity in our classes, but teach different aspects of creativity.:
